Supporting Small Business Relief can soften some 2026 bill increases.
For eligible English properties that lost specified relief because of the 2026 revaluation, the scheme limits how quickly the bill can rise.
Who it is for
GOV.UK says the scheme can apply where a property bill increased due to revaluation and the business lost some or all of Small Business Rate Relief, Rural Rate Relief, Retail Hospitality and Leisure relief, or 2023 Supporting Small Business Relief.
2026/27 caps
For 2026/27, the government says bills rise by no more than £800 or the relevant percentage cap, whichever is greater. The percentage depends on the rateable-value band.
Why X-Ray separates bill from valuation
Relief can temporarily soften a large valuation increase. That does not prove the valuation is correct or wrong. It answers a different question: how quickly the bill reaches its full amount.
