Why did my rateable value change in 2026?
A large change can be real, mistaken or partly explained by how the local property market moved. The size of the increase alone does not answer which.
Start with the revaluation
The 2026 list reflects a new valuation date and market evidence compared with the previous list. Entire areas and property sectors can move substantially.
Then check your property facts
Floor area, use and other property details can affect a valuation. If those facts are wrong, correcting the factual record may be the first issue to investigate.
Then compare intelligently
A building next door may be a poor comparator if its use, size, scheme or valuation approach differs. Comparison quality matters more than comparison count.
